Develop an Implementation Strategy for DRM
You will be attending this 3-day life changing workshop, focusing on Strategic Planning and develop your strategic planning skills. On completion you and your management team will have addressed the current reality in you area and will have developed a Disaster Management Strategy to suit your organisation’s specific needs. The plan will also be aligned with the dplg’s National Disaster Management Strategic Implementation Plan.
The Strategy will address the strategic objectives, operational plans and required means like infrastructure, people and systems as well as detail project plans on how to achieve the objectives. Sensitive issues like positioning and placement of the DM function in relation to other functions as well as the ultimate structure for the DM function will be addressed and formulated.
The strategic planning skills you will acquire will include business analysis, strategic option generation and evaluation of strategic options and selection of the ultimate strategy.

Develop a DRM Policy Framework and get it adopted
You will experience a weeklong exciting workshop in your province, whereto representatives of all the metros and district municipalities will be invited. Your current documents (if any) could be used and, with the assistance of Pat Reid and Ferdie Mocke, members of the drafting team of the National Disaster Management Framework, you will develop your own policy framework while developing and practising your policy formulation skills.
The workshop will unfold in a participative experience, reviewing and considering your own situation and with the aid of well defined and formulated templates, formulating your own framework. This approach ensures that you understand and influence the final policy direction of DM in your domain. The experience you will gain during this workshop will enable you to facilitate and assist others with similar processes. The final outcome of this workshop will be a policy framework, based on you own initiative and drive, ready for public comment.

Perform a GAP & Current Reality Analysis
When attending this 3-day workshop, you will learn how to conduct a current reality or gap analysis in your own area. The National Disaster Management Monitoring & Evaluation Instrument, as made available by the NDMC, will be used and you will learn how to apply your monitoring & evaluation skills in a very practical and participative manner.
The KPIs as reflected in the National Disaster Management Framework form the basis for this very exciting and interactive workshop where the meaning of “learning” takes a new dimension. The GAPA workbook brings a new angle on gap analysis and makes it easy and fun to assess compliance and performance. The Gaps will be identified and the “Possible Projects List” will be used as guidance to identify the “Projects Templates” to be used to close the identified gaps. Recommendations on how to fill these gaps will be discussed during a well defined process of scoping and customisation of the project plans.
The “DMS Disaster Risk Management Programme Folder” will be used as guidance to define what need to be documented to comply with the requirements of all the KPAs and Enablers.

Establish and manage Advisory Forums
This 2-day workshop will assist you to establish, plan and facilitate Disaster Management Advisory Forums. You will learn how to develop a DMAF’s Terms of Reference, how to invite the appropriate role players; how to plan meetings and present progress reports. You will also be able to establish Technical Task Teams and facilitate multi-disciplinary task teams through the facilitation and organising skills that you will be taught.
This workshop can be conducted with the members of the Advisory Forum, ensuring success and buy-in form the outset. They will participate in a very practical manner to discover what their respective roles in the forum are and how to play it successfully. Plan & conduct community driven risk assessments
As part of the community focus in Disaster Risk Management, it is essential to be able to facilitate and conduct community driven risk assessment. During this 3+2-day workshop, you will learn the principles of risk assessment and methodologies applied to community based risk assessment and apply it in practice. You will compile a risk profile based on the identified hazards, defined vulnerabilities and capacity.
Practical and easy to use GIS tools and the “Disaster Buster™ Risk Mapper” with a detailed guideline will be used to assist you to acquire this essential risk assessment skill. The risk assessment process will lead you to compile a comprehensive risk profile comprising a spatial as well as a risk quartile matrix, (quantification of multiple hazards, multiple vulnerabilities and capacity) ready for use and reporting to senior management.

Set up and manage an integrated DRM information system
