The purpose of the project is to undertake a review and update of the WC: SRAM that was developed in the 2011/12 financial year. The outputs of the research will be geared towards building community resilience by capacitating Municipalities and relevant stakeholders in conducting DRAs independently.

The project takes into account the following:

  • Review the WC: SRAM in line with existing national and provincial legislation, policies and frameworks;
  • Review and update the Provincial hazards;
  • Outline standardized terminology and definitions in the DRA processes;
  • Consider new methodologies of conducting risk and vulnerability assessments in the Province that will be geared towards capacitating local and district municipalities;
  • Review and recommend best practise for the Hazard, Vulnerability and Capacity (HVC) Tool. Consider and recommend best practices for improved hazard quantification, as well as guidelines on improved assessment of DRR intervention impacts; and
  • Consider and recommend best practice in aligning and merging the enterprise risk management, risk management (security), climate change, environmental and resilience management processes with the DRA process.
